| From Audart Tributes We brought our two boys, aged 5 and
7 to the Audart Gallery right after you opened. The Urban Frontier exhibition
was up and we had a lot of fun showing all that amazing art to our sons.
We thought they might be afraid of the huge metal sculpture by Mr.
Hatchett but, as it turned out, we couldn't drag them out of his room, and
it was all we could do to keep them from climbing up onto the large piece
in the center. It was really fantastic, and they still talk about "the
big metal creatures". Alice Dawson, New York

A number of David Hatchett's sculptural pieces were exhibited in Audart's inaugural exhibition "The Urban Frontier". David uses aluminum sheeting, metal tubing and other materials from the construction industry, often wrapping and bolting these materials around everyday objects. He has referred to his art as deconstructionism. David's recent paintings were shown in the Ajita Exhibition at STATION in Houston, Texas. David is also a musician and a writer. He has had two of his stories published in the Arts4All newsletter, including "Nine Eleven Eight Four Eight", his personal recount of the morning of September 11, 2001. We include the opening of this story. To read the story in its entirety, please click on "continue". Nine Eleven Eight Four
Eight A quiet calm, a staggering blast, an excited primal shock jostles my inner balance. Punctured hearts flood the emotion gates in disbelief. We begin our workweek business as usual maybe, but we wait for what will come next and take nothing for granted, each step an uncertain future. The bright orange blast, the billowing black and orange against the late summer blue, the moment before the moment after and screams of incineration leaping from a hundred stories, towering universes stacked, reshuffled to pull fate from below the top card dancing across the table. continue home artists' index.............introduction |
