Ten Years After: The Warhol Factory
February 7, 1997

Allen Midgette

Allen Midgette first established himself as an actor in films by noted European directors Pier Paolo Pasolini and Bernardo Bertolucci (among them, Bertolucci's Before the Revolution ).

He became a featured player in some of Warhol's movies of 1967-68, such as ****, The Nude Restaurant, and Lonesome Cowboys. Midgette's most remarkable performance was his impersonation of Warhol on the college lecture circuit--a prank devised by Warhol and his assistant Paul Morrissey, which remained undiscovered by audiences for nearly six months. Since Warhol's death in 1987, Midgette has revived his impersonation as performance art. He continues acting in off-Broadway productions and films.

Recently, he has begun to produce wearable art, paintings, and mixed-media assemblages based on natural forms related to his Cherokee heritage.
