"In
the works that have been selected for this exhibition, I have attempted
to
deal with the psychological aspects of urban life. The studies of
the
human form concentrate on the essentials of being human and the range
of
emotions that involves. They are juxtaposed against a variety of
textures
and colors, representing the multitude of patterns in the urban
environment,
sometimes suggesting clothing and sometimes landscapes.
The
works deal with fragmentation, alienation, isolation and the breakdown
of
relationships, so prevalent in the stress of city life. They
incorporate
the use of hot colors and stress-provoking contrasts in hue and
texture.
There is a contrast between the hardness of the environment and
the
softness of the human form.
Some
have reference to Greek mythology and Jungian symbolism. The
charcoal
stick figures are a direct reference to our more primeval roots, be
they
cave drawings or childish scribblings. Too often, in our frantic
urban
lives, we forget our links to the past and the meaning of these symbols."
